J.I. Morris Company is one of the largest manufacturers of miniature screw threads in the USA. They make very small screws in both miniature number and UNM (metric) sizes, self-tapping screws, hex nuts, flat washers, turned parts and also tiny precision ground taps and thread gages from stock and to order.

The Problem

J.I. Morris Company’s existing website utilized a third party service and only provided the capability to display their product line. Their order process was done by dealing directly with the customer over fax and/or phone. Additionally the product management aspect of their system was flawed with usability issues making it a difficult and time consuming task to manage product inventory.

J.I. Morris Company required an integrated e-commerce application to improve their product management, order processing and customer management practices while also providing the capability to service domestic and international customers.

The Sollutions

We analyzed the JI Morris web site and its online marketing efforts and designed a solution for JI Morris that would increase traffic, increase conversions on their website, and increase sales on their website.

The implementation process required the migration and re-categorization of their existing product data. This presented a challenge as the existing data could only be exported from the current system to multiple spreadsheets that stored unit measurements in different cells from the corresponding data.This format required custom import scripts to be developed to properly translate the data and prevent manual re-organization.

The next implementation step was to perform data migration to the new system on their tiered pricing structure. This migration process also presented issues as different units and quantities were associated with each tier. Also stored in a spreadsheet, this data was imported and associated with respective product groups by using a custom import script.

Once integrated, the e-commerce system delivered a new experience to J.I. Morris Company clients. Custome's, new and old, were able to store their contact and shipping information in the system using a secure login to expedite new orders, apply discount and promotional codes, receive order status updates and easily track their shipments.

Order processing at J.I. Morris Company became a vastly improved process allowing company employees to effortlessly review and update order details, customer information, product information and run sales and statistic reports from a single, secure user interface.
